Nice is my home town. These are the details I think about once the date is set: which steps you'll climb, where the quiet corners are, and where to toast afterwards.
Castle Hill: three settings in one park
The terraces over the Baie des Anges, the waterfall built in 1885 and the belvedere 92 m above the city are all a few minutes apart. That lets me hide in one place while you walk in from another. The park is listed as wheelchair and stroller accessible, with accessible toilets and two kiosks. If the lift is stopped for rain or maintenance, we take the Lesage stairs from the seafront instead. The free lift normally runs about 10:00–17:00 (not in rain or maintenance). By car, there is parking at the top of the hill next to the Jewish cemetery, reached by the montée Montfort behind the port. By Uber, set the drop-off at the Promenade des Anglais side near the sea, at the foot of the lift (rue des Ponchettes / quai des États-Unis): if you type "Colline du Château" in the app, the driver leaves you on the wrong side, behind the port, and the climb is harder.
Cap de Nice and Coco Beach
This is the wild side of Nice, just east of the port. Coco Beach is a rocky inlet, open at any hour, but you reach it by a steep staircase and then a ladder. Leave the heels at the hotel, and choose somewhere else if mobility is a concern.
Mont Boron
When a couple wants space rather than an audience, I suggest Mont Boron. The forest park covers 57 hectares with 11 km of paths and is free every day. Bus 14 climbs up, but the easiest way is Uber, which drops you at the closest point; and many paths are gentle enough for a stroller. The views sweep from the Baie des Anges to Cap Ferrat and the Alps, near the 16th-century Fort du Mont Alban.
Old Town and the celebration
Vieux-Nice sits right below Castle Hill, so the toast is a five-minute walk from the yes. The Cours Saleya flower market runs Tuesday to Sunday and is loveliest early, before it fills. A café terrace on the square or a small restaurant in the lanes is all you need.
Plan B and season
October and November are the rainiest months, so I keep those dates flexible. On wind alerts the city closes its parks and the coastal path, sometimes at short notice. When that happens I move us to the covered lanes of the Old Town.
